- Abstract
The author highlights the benefits and limitations of registry studies for detecting underperforming implants and for mapping trends in arthroplasty practice. Topics covered include prospectively collected data provided by registries, the use of Australian registry data to show link between ceramic-on-ceramic bearings and a lower rate of revision for prosthetic joint infection, and the use of registry observations to produce hypothesis followed by rigorous testing via various study designs.
