- Abstract
The article discusses a research study on equine bone fragility syndrome associated with pulmonary silicosis. The postmortem study grossly and histologically evaluated bones of 3 unaffected horses and 9 affected horses as to intracytoplasmic crystals, silicon levels and lung tissue through radiographs. Findings showed osteoporosis in all 9 affected horses and subclinical or clinical pulmonary disease related to silicosis or pneumocosis and radiographs showed osteopenia while histologic findings include osteoporosis characterized by osteopenia.
