- Authors
Bisel, Larry D.
- Abstract
The article discusses security in computer networks using the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol, which offers confidentiality, message integrity and endpoint authentication. SSL can be helpful in securing communications in electronic commerce and in other business or personal communication when security is needed between a client and a server. SSL can also offer secure access the corporate networks, particularly with virtual private networks. It is pointed out that when deciding whether to apply SSL, it is essential to look at the large picture, and to analyze the entire threat model for one's environment.
