- Abstract
This book review discusses the main contribution of a volume titled "Greco-Roman Associations, Deities, and Early Christianity." The book explores the comparison between early Christian groups and associations in order to provide useful reading contexts and aid in understanding the distinctive practices of early Christian groups. The review highlights various essays in the volume that examine the differences between Christ groups and Greco-Roman associations, such as the use of clothing, assigning honor to benefactors, self-sale into slavery, and financial practices. The review also mentions a chapter that analyzes the function of meals in early Christ groups and compares them to the segregative commensalities of Greco-Roman associations. Overall, the volume offers interesting insights into the similarities and differences between early Christian groups and associations.
