- Title
Still A Battlefield: An Evaluation of Gender Balance in National and Local Network News Broadcasting.
- Authors
Brockman, Maureen M.
- Abstract
The article focuses on a study which quantifies the contributions of women to broadcast news reporting and to compare the roles of men and women in the U.S. in covering news of local, national and international significance. Local and national nightly news broadcasts on the three major television networks in the U.S., ABC, CBS and NBC, were examined from February 18 to March 8. 1991. The study found that there is still continued disparity between men and women broadcast journalists in the amount of airtime and opportunities for journalistic prominence they perceive. The disparity is very evident on the national level.
