- Abstract
The article presents abstracts of various papers published in the April 1, 1982 issue of the journal Quality & Quantity. The article "Non-Experimental Research on the Effect of the Wording of Questions in Survey Interviews," by Nicolaas J. Molenaar shows the common experimental design for investigating possible effects of the wording of questions upon response distributions is thought to be inefficient if the main interest lies in the general patterns of these effects. The article "Models and Social Mobility Research: A Comparison of Some Log-Linear Models of a Social Mobility Matrix," by Seppo Pöntinen shows log-linear models have been used increasingly in social mobility research, not only to test the significance of certain effects, but also as models of the structure of social mobility. In the level-parameter model the cells of the mobility matrix are grouped into a number of subsets, within which there is no interaction. In the special application considered here the levels are arranged so that mobility outside the main diagonal is expressed as much as possible as quasi-perfect, being directed by marginal effects alone.
