The article examines the need for improvements in U.S. regulations to address the threat of oil spills and the associated problem of climate change. Topics discussed include reforms and initiatives made by former U.S. President Barack Obama's administration following the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the history of modern oil regulation in the U.S., and the Green New Deal resolution proposed by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Senator Edward Markey of Massachusetts.
