- Abstract
Exports are an important economic activity for developing countries like Turkey. Analyzing exporting enterprises and evaluating new incentives to increase exports accordingly has an important place in the economic policies of many developing countries. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of the top thousand exporting enterprises in Turkey as a developing country based on exports, domestic sales and profit before tax. Based on the sources of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), the performance evaluation of 429 companies from the companies in the list without missing data was made with the entropy-based EDAS approach, using the data of the thousand enterprises that exported the most in 2021. While evaluating the performance, the mentioned 429 companies were evaluated in 4 different groups according to the types of companies: manufacturer-exporter, foreign trade company (industrial or capital foreign trade), exporter and group foreign trade company. The criteria weights vary for companies in different groups in the stage of determining the entropy and criterion weights, which is the first stage of the integrated approach. In fact, while the most important criterion affecting the performance for companies that are exporters and group foreign trade companies is observed as the profit before tax variable; For companies that are producer-exporter and foreign trade firm, the criterion with the highest degree of importance was the variable of domestic sales. After the EDAS performance evaluation made by using the weights obtained by the entropy method, the companies with the highest performance in different groups were determined. The study is unique in that it is a performance analysis based on secondary data of Turkey's top exporting enterprises as far as is known. Although studies using similar entropy-based approaches have focused on very different types of enterprises, the sample of this study has the potential to have a high economic and commercial impact since it is directly linked to the national economy.
