- Abstract
Erving Goffman's work is considered as an accomplished effort to understand modern social order on a microsociological scale. In this article I retrieve a reading of the Goffmanian self that allows me to state some premises to understand the dynamics of the conflict in the same analytic level. Where Goffmanian concepts are insufficient to account for the meaning that the action has for the actor, I engage in a productive dialogue with other theoretical traditions. Throughout this paper I identify three elements that the analyst should attend to: repertoires, breakdowns and narratives. My statement conceives conflict as a social and moral breakdown, which means interpreting it as a 'methodological tool'. Moreover, I will state that the narrative, as conceived by Jerome Bruner, can provide access to the comprehensive study of conflict within social interaction.
