- Abstract
This article presents an investigation into the causes of the reduction of students' interest in physics, in the transition from elementary to high school, described by educational supervisors of private schools in Porto Alegre. Previous research has associated this phenomenon to the performance of teachers, but the causes remain unknown. This research interviewed school supervisors - a technical group that has global perception of school functioning - from a semi-structured, validated and applied in seventeen private schools, selected by geographic criteria. For the treatment of information was used the Essential Synthetic Interpretation and the Discursive Textual Analysis. Differences were identified between the forms of physics education at the fundamental (first nine years of basic education) and high school (next three years of basic education), suggesting that the fundamental level awakens the taste and students' interest in physics because it is contextualized, experimental and based on the affective relationship between teachers and students, while in high school exists an attitudinal change on teachers accompanying a more theoretical pedagogical approach, focused on the preparation for entrance exams and the National Secondary Education Examination. Furthermore, it is suggested that structuralists strategies, usually indicated for improving physics education, have not been effective.
