- Abstract
Gaston Bachelard presents the epistemological obstacles as conceptions that hindering the scientific thought. Bachelard outlines some types of obstacles as the verbal, the substancialist, the animist and the realistic obstacles that contribute to detain the advance of scientific knowledge. In addition, the teleology approached by Ernst Mayr can also be identified as one of these obstacles. From an article of science divulgation, released at Scientific American Brazil magazine, we have selected a few phrases highlighted as epistemological obstacles according to the typology proposed by Bachelard and the teleology developed by Mayr in biology. In this paper, we analyze the considerations of Biological Sciences students from CEDERJ (Center of Superior Education at the Distance of the State of Rio de Janeiro), about such assertions. Using a scale of Likert, the undergraduate students opined about sentences considered finalists/teleological and other used as counterpoint (not-finalists). The replies analysis indicated the non-perception in relation to differences in sentences structures. There was no significant disagreement with finalist phrases. We consider the non-identification of epistemological obstacles as a pedagogical obstacle that influences the sciences teaching.
