The article discusses the author's findings from collecting French folk songs at the folk communities in the Detroit River French. The type of song, known as la chanson à répondre, make up only a percentage of the Detroit River repertoire. Overwhelming preponderance of strophic songs is what characterizes the Detroit River repertoire. The Detroit River francophones have connections with the past.
