- Abstract
The article focuses on the political career and legacy of Sir John Alexander Macdonald, a Canadian lawyer and former Prime Minister. Topics of discussion include his decision to have Canadian politician and activist Louis Riel hanged, his participation in the marginalization of Canada's indigenous peoples, his role in the creation of the Canadian Confederation, and his resiliency and political engagement. In conclusion, the author suggests that Macdonald's statesmanship as well as the consequences of his decisions and those of his successors should be reflected upon.
