- Title
Wintertime for source protection?
- Authors
Pillans, Brian
- Abstract
The editor argues for the protection of journalists' sources of information in Great Britain. He looks back at the 2014 phone hacking trial that involved a former "News of the World" editor and discusses the role of the Independent Press Standards Organization (IPSO) in reinforcing source protection with its adoption of the Editors' Code. He presents the case of police forces in 2014 who used the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 to access phone records of journalists without consent.
