- Title
Science and Religion in India: Beyond Disenchantment by Renny Thomas (review).
- Authors
Lang, Claudia
- Abstract
These observations raise questions about science as necessarily disenchanted and in conflict with religion, and what role religion plays in the everyday practice of science in an Indian context. In this thorough ethnographic study of science and religion in India, Thomas gives voice to Indian scientists and illustrates their orientation toward religious thought and practice. Thomas allows his subjects to speak at length, astutely embeds their ideas and practices within broader historical, sociological, and anthropological debates on science and religion, and is transparent about his own positionality and methodological challenges of "studying up.".
