In this article the author discusses the concept of elementary teachers as researchers in the classroom. According to the author, elementary teachers have a good knowledge of their students' ideas at their fingertips every day. The author says that action research deepens teachers' understanding of teaching and learning, and provides an opportunity for teachers to contribute to the professional knowledge base by sharing findings with a colleague or with the entire school.
