WEINER, MARC A.
- Abstract
In this article the author considers the impact that the primordial sounds of the opera composition of Richard Wagner have on the physical being of the listener. He suggests that the popularity of Wagner's music lies in its ability to provoke significant emotional and physiological reaction in audiences. In support of his contention the author cites instances of music that refers to pregnancy, birth and regeneration, and the state of diminished corporeality from the operas contained in the cycle known as "Der Ring des Nibelungen."
