- Abstract
The article discusses a work of fiction titled "Dard la dava," by author Krishna Baldev Vaid published in 1975 and its lack of religious "faith" while maintaining parallel concepts of exile, alienation, and the mythical quest. It is noted that Vaid suggests that religious discourse should be human, secular, mixed, and polyphonic. Particular focus is directed toward the way Vaid's narratives draw their metaphysical discourse from indigenous sources. How the author manages to express a form of "faith" that avoids constraints often conveyed by traditional religious discourse is investigated. Vaid's conceptualization of what he terms "mystical agnosticism" is explained.
