- Abstract
The article discusses the hazards of change in US hospitals from 1959 through 1979. The article differentiates between change that is controlled and that which is not controlled, and change which is routine rather than non-routine. The article discusses institutional change processes, presents a historical context for surgical hospitals from 1959-1979, outlines the methods and results of the study, and discusses the implications of the study in terms of organizational change and innovation adoption.
