- Abstract
Kenneth Garren, PhD, served as the president of the University of Lynchburg (formerly Lynchburg College, Lynchburg, VA) from August 2001 until his recent retirement in July 2020. Dr. Garren received his undergraduate degree from Roanoke College (Roanoke, VA), master's degree from William and Mary (Williamsburg, VA), and doctoral degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Blacksburg, VA). During his time at Lynchburg, he received multiple awards for his leadership and service. In 2007, he became one of the charter signatories of the Presidents' Climate Commitment, solidifying Lynchburg's commitment to environmental sustainability. During his final weeks as president, on July 2, 2020, Jyoti Aggarwal, a University of Lynchburg student in the Educational Doctorate in Leadership Studies, interviewed him about his philosophy of sustainability and leadership, with a focus on the three spheres of sustainability.
