- Abstract
The article analyses the state of development of modern education in Ukraine and substantiates the influence of modern education on the self-determination of the individual in the dimensions of the world socio-cultural space and domestic society. Such terms as "knowledge society", "information society", "post-industrial stage of social development", "information person", "network society" are researched and interpreted. It is considered that in the circumstances of a transformational society in which social and economic conditions are unstable, individuals need to improve their professionalism constantly, prove their competence and demonstrate their competitiveness in order to take a certain position in the social structure and in the labour market. Therefore, education is now increasingly ceased to be interpreted as achieving a certain level of knowledge, and is viewed from the standpoint of «continuity in life», which aims to develop the individual, the formation of his / her spirituality, culture, and planetary thinking. It is proved that the current trends in the development of world and national education are: introduction of new telecommunication models of education; increase the duration of training and training of qualified specialists; extending of academic freedom, democratization of education, humanization and humanization of education; enhancing cross-border educational mobility; expanding the influence of public opinion on management decision-making in education; increasing the individualization of educational routes (initial trajectories), internal intellectual and external educational mobility. However, the social structure of Ukrainian society, which covers not only the sphere of the consumer market, but also all major areas of social life, including the system of value-regulators of activity and behaviour of all population categories, not always contributes to the development of education, and even inhibits its progress.
