Davidson on First Person Authority and Knowledge of Meaning.
- Authors
Child, William
- Abstract
The article discusses the views of philosopher Donald Davidson on first person authority and knowledge of meaning. Davidson noted a discrepancy between a speakers' perception of the truth in their own statements and those of others. Davidson also suggested that a speaker's application of words in speech determines their meaning. The author suggests Davidson's work fails to determine a speaker's ability to judge the meaning of their words.
