- Abstract
In order to find out the influence of the roots of desert plants to the bank collapse of the Tarim River, the original soil of the Tarim River bank was taken and Tamarix ramosissima of the local dominant shrubs were used as representative plants. The roots were washed under the condition of without vegetation and with vegetation, and the roots were observed. Under the influence of the river bank collapse process, the type of collapse and the distribution of near-shore flow field, the protection of plant roots on the river bank was analyzed. The results show that under the condition of without vegetation, the bank collapse type is mainly collapsed. After the lower brushing makes the overhang width of the upper soil layer reach the critical value, the heavy moment of the upper soil layer is greater than its own resistance torque and the rotation collapses; Under the condition of with vegetation, the type of bank collapse is mostly flat sliding failure, which is characterized by vertical fissure at the top of the river bank. Vertically extending along the fissure, the collapsed clods slide down the water along the slip surface; the vegetation retaining has a significant influence to the surrounding flow field, near the shore. The average flow velocity in the main flow direction is gradually changed to the same order of magnitude from the horizontal and vertical average flow rates; the soil consolidation effect is from 18% to 65%, and the river bank suspension is exponentially increasing with the root surface density and root length density. The surface area density can better reflect the soil-fixing capacity of the root system.
