Title

Teaching in the Metaverse: The Use of Virtual Reality in a Global Learning Context.

Authors

Watson, Kelly; Ensher, Ellen

Abstract

This article aims to share the experience of educators in an executive MBA program during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pioneering use of virtual reality technology was incorporated into the virtual trip portion of the course and thus achieved key learning objectives. Since online learning is likely here to stay and recent technological enhancements have made the metaverse more accessible, we expect management educators will want to be informed about teaching success stories and curriculum innovations that leverage it. International travel disruption may persist or become cost-prohibitive for students, leaving business schools eager for viable substitutes. We share our curricular goals and project design, our experience with various virtual technologies, and insights gained from our study of Native American businesses. We also provide resources, lessons learned, and suggestions for future study.
