- Abstract
In our approach, we will analyze how, in a set of Marian songs produced during the reign of the Castilian-Leonese monarch Alfonso X (1252-1284), a textual and iconographic construction of the Virgin Mary becomes operational as a kind of spiritual "leader" of the Castilian-Leonese amidst the military offensives that operated as part of the Reconquista company, in a process whose gradual execution ended up directing her transformation into an Armed Virgin. To this end, we will use, as a theoretical and methodological approach, the approaches offered by Jean-Claude Schmitt around the images produced in the Medieval West, and, equally, the reflections provided by Michael Foucault about the discourses produced in the core of societies.
