- Title
Fifth Element: The Current State of Boron Chemistry.
- Authors
Stogniy, Marina Yu.
- Abstract
This document provides an overview of the current state of boron chemistry, focusing on its unique structures and applications. It begins with the study of boron hydrides and the elucidation of their structures by chemists Alfred Stock and William N. Lipscomb. The development of organoboron chemistry, initiated by Herbert C. Brown, led to important applications in organic synthesis, such as the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. The synthesis of polyhedral boron hydrides expanded the range of boron structures, and their aromatic nature gives them unique properties. The document also highlights specific research articles on the synthesis of zinc borates, boron-based compounds as anticancer agents, and the design of novel tungstaborane clusters. The special issue focuses on the chemistry of boron compounds, including the synthesis of ruthenacarboranes with potential applications as catalysts in organic processes. The authors express gratitude to all the contributors and anticipate further developments in boron chemistry.
