- Abstract
The variables of motivation and self-esteem are closely related to learning and academic performance, while low levels of these variables are associated with sociocultural vulnerability and limited personal and academic development. The current study evaluated the individual and accumulated effects of gender, ethnicity, and origin (urban/rural) on self-esteem and motivation, specifically to determine their effect on a group of female students. Tests of self-perception and self-evaluation were given to secondary school students (n=4,690). The results showed strong associations for gender and weak associations for ethnicity and origin. An integration of the variables revealed their significant effect, along with significant social and educational gaps among the female students.
