- Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate Türkiye's early childhood education and their policies in terms of schooling, school attandance rates, financial reports, and education programme with reference to 'A short glance at education 2015: OECD Report' which is published at 24 November 2015. In this report, school attandance rates of 3 and 4 years old children, percentage of chidren enrolled in public schools in early childhood education, attendance rates in early childhood education and primary education by age, expenditure on pre-primary educational institutions, ratio of students to teaching staff, profile of early childhood educational development programmes are evaluated by the comparision of OECD countries and Turkey, existed situations are revealed. According to results it is found that in Turkey, the amount of funding allocated to early childhood education, the working conditions of early childhood teachers and attendance rate of 0-3 age of children was determined to be low when compered with OECD countries. In the light of the results, it is proposed to increase the public expenditures for early childhood education, to raise awareness of the families in disadvantaged areas and to improve working conditions of early childhood teachers.
