- Abstract
Introduction: The resistance training (RT) has been recommended as essential component in physical exercises program to health promotion in elderly, being that the RT adaptations can be adjusted according to training's variables manipulation. Purpose: Investigate the effects of exercises order on glycemic responses and subjective perception of effort (SPE) in diabetic elderly. Materials and Methods: 15 female participated in this study with age of 67.6 ±5.5 years, height of 162.9 ±6.0 cm, body mass of 64.1 ±7.3 kg and body mass index (BMI) of 24.1 ±1.7 kg/m2. It were performed two training sessions with equalized total volume, one of them beginning with multi joint exercises (C1) and other with single joint (C2). To verify possible differences between the factors was performed the two-way ANOVA with repeated measures with Bonferroni's post hoc (p<0.05). Results: There was a significant decrease in glycemia after C2 session (Pre=206.7 ±9.5 mg/dL, Post=203.5 ±9.7 mg/dL; p=0.001), with difference between sessions in post moment (C1=207.1 ±9.4 mg/dL, C2=203.5 ±9.7 mg/dL; p=0.001). It was verified a higher SPE in C2 session in relation to C1 (p=0.008). Conclusion: We concluded that C2 was more efficient to glycemia reduction in short term compared with C1, however, the SPE was higher in C2, what can be a limiting to training program adherence.
