- Abstract
This article aims to reflect on the berimbau instrument within an educational practice, presenting its origin, structure, touches, types, functions and rhythms. This study is based on the historicaldialectical materialist method, analyzing the instrument within a social, historical and cultural context. As a result, it was found that the berimbau is of African origin, found in several popular Brazilian cultures, standing out in capoeira, in musical arrangements and in the games and songs of roda. In classical music it is used as a percussive instrument. In the classroom, it can be used as a didactic tool of easy production, which can be handcrafted, even with recyclable, accessible and lowcost materials. Thus, we conclude that the berimbau in the classroom can be used to work on the aesthetics of black music within the perspective of Law No. 11.645 / 2008, as a mediation tool for unveiling the expressions of inequalities and resistance.
