Federal Post-Conviction Supervision Outcomes: Rearrests and Revocations.
- Authors
Johnson, James L.
- Abstract
This article provides statistical data on criminal recidivism rates and revocation rates among individuals on federal probation or supervised release. The data, based on federal community supervision terms between October 2011 and September 2022, show that the overall rearrest rate within five years of starting supervision was 27%, with higher rates for individuals classified as high risk. Drug offenses and assault were the most common reasons for rearrest. The article also highlights variations in rearrest rates, revocation rates, and failure rates across different federal districts. Overall, the data suggests that rearrest and revocation rates have been declining over time.
