- Abstract
The article discusses the founding and early history of Brisbane, Queensland. Primary focus is given to the role of British Army Captain Patrick Logan in the establishment of the city during his tenure as Commandant of the British penal colony of Moreton Bay, Queensland, through the erection of permanent buildings and a hospital in the penal settlement. Convicts James Davis' and John Williams' roles in developing Brisbane after it became a free settlement are outlined as well.
