- Abstract
Contributions to numerical modelling of geotechnical boundary value problems – automatic parameter calibration, earthquake‐induced liquefaction and pull‐out resistance of grouted anchors In this paper, new developments within the finite element program numgeo are presented and their applicability and robustness are shown by simulating an embankment subjected to earthquake loading and the pull‐out of (grouted) anchors. The simulation of water‐saturated embankments subjected to seismic loading places high demands on the available element formulations and constitutive models, for which numgeo was specially developed. The robustness and applicability of the latter is considerably improved by the automatic calibration software numgeo‐ACT. For the simulation of the pull‐out resistance of grouted anchors, the contact behaviour between grouted material and surrounding soil plays a decisive role. In this paper, it is demonstrated through the back‐calculation of model tests that a simple Coulomb friction model for the description of the contact behaviour is not sufficient to adequately determine the pull‐out resistance. With the help of the hypoplastic contact model implemented in numgeo, much better predictions can be achieved.
