- Abstract
Energy savings from recycling of construction and demolition waste? Construction waste can be divided into three groups in terms of energy savings during recycling: 1. Asphalt waste: Due to its thermoplastic properties, the waste bitumen present in broken or milled asphalt allows savings in new bitumen in the mix. This can result in significant energy savings. 2. Waste of the mineral‐bound building materials concrete, sand‐lime brick, aerated autoclaved concrete: At present, no energy savings resulting from the building material properties or the manufacturing process can be identified. Subjective influences such as those resulting from transport distances were not considered here. 3. Brick waste and masonry rubble: Energy savings compared to primary building materials are possible when the materials are recycled in thermal processes. Examples are the partial raw material substitution in the brick production or the production of lightweight aggregates using masonry rubble instead of clay.
