- Abstract
Soil improvement with rapidely curing polymers Soil improvement to increase the soil strength is often reached using cement suspensions. An alternative to this can be polymer‐modified grouted bodies. They harden faster than conventional cement‐based‐mixtures. They also have a higher ductility. The properties can be controlled in different ways by varying the individual components. However, the properties that can be achieved depend on the soil conditions and soil state. For this purpose, extensive investigations were carried out on a soil‐polymer‐mixture and a soil‐cement‐polymer‐mixture. The development of the uniaxial compressive strength depending on the curing time and the surrounding water content was examined in laboratory tests. Furthermore, the volumetric behaviour during the hardening reaction and during the loading was analyzed. It has been shown that the application of polymers has a significantly positive effect on the curing time and, in connection with cement, on the magnitude of compressive strength in comparison with cement grouting. In particular, the very high innitial compressive strength can be useful for structural purposes, e. g. for quick and effective intervention in the building subsoil in case of foundation failure.
