- Abstract
In his habilitation thesis, Jonas Kreienbaum examines the significance of the oil crises of the 1970s for North-South relations. He shows how the demand for a change in the terms of trade in favor of the post-colonial countries of the global South emerged and how the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) took control of the oil reserves. Kreienbaum emphasizes the strength of solidarity in the Third World, but also the deterioration of the terms of trade and the short-lived solidarity. The study competently summarizes the extensive literature on the history of oil and North-South relations and adds a new puzzle piece with the Zambian perspective.
