- Abstract
Few studies have focused on the efficiency aspect of the SAG mill discharge system. To contribute to this aspect, a series of discharge measurement tests were performed based on simulated particles counting through steel balls using a scale laboratory SAG mill. The internal load granulometry of the mill was simulated using different sizes of steel balls. To determine the influence of the pulp lifters designs and the mill rotational speed in the discharge capacity, tests using two types of lifters designs (radial and curved) were conducted, and the mill rotational speed was varied at three levels; 70, 76 and 82% of the critical speed. The grill used for all the experiences consisted of 11% open area and slot sizes of 4 mm. The feed was simulated with 3 and 4 mm diameter steel balls that were subsequently counted to determine the discharge. The results of the experiments showed that the configuration of curved design pulp lifters presented a considerable increase in the mill discharge.
