- Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to develop a theoretical framework for monitoring and interpreting different school leadership characteristics and dimensions. This framework emphasizes those school leadership characteristics and dimensions that are associated with indicators of (higher) school effectiveness. Based on theoretical considerations and previous researches, school leadership is defined as a process of influence in decision-making, that focuses on setting and realizing the overall school goals. Decision-making and school goals are directed at changes and innovations. Previous researches suggest the importance of enhancing the characteristics of distributed school leadership which is identified by participation and influence of other stakeholders (not only the principal) in the decision making process. Collaborative relationships between different stakeholders are stressed. In this paper school leadership facilitators that contribute to school leadership development are also emphasized.
