- Abstract
Teaching the hour concept can be included within the transference of math skills in general experiences of this participant during the teaching process were examined. This study has been conducted in the city of Aydin (Turkey), and the participant was an eighteen-year-old adult who is severely mentally disabled and is continuing his education in a private education and rehabilitation centre. The participant was able to count the numbers, write, and carry out the directions given to him. The researcher and participant worked on 'clock reading' during several sessions During these sessions it was aimed to carry through the full hour, half-hour, and quarter-hour teaching. In addition, writing an hour as minutes and reading the clock properly were targeted to teach as efficiently as possible. During the conducted activities and through questions asked during these sessions the aim was to analyse and understand the participant's thinking processes. This pertains an experimental study with one participant, created utilising a teaching experiment design. The participant learned to read time (i.e. the clock) after ten weeks. At the end of this education experiment the participant has learned the full and half-hour concepts easily, however, struggled in understanding the quarter past and quarter to concepts. However, at the end of the study, the student could read the hours.
