- Abstract
The geography of regional integration systems is nowadays diverse. Their presence on almost all continents - Europe (EU), America (Andean Community, MERCOSUR, SICA), Africa (AU, Community of West African States), Asia (ASEAN) - allows an interesting comparison of the Community institutions and their respective laws. In this broad spectrum, the European Union remains the reference point as the most integrated regional area. Against this background, the present article provides a comparative analysis of the Community experiences of the European Union and of the Andean Community in order to highlight their similarities and differences, with particular emphasis on demonstrating how the former has strongly influenced the latter. Far from the "romanticism" of the first European Community authors, this approach leads us to return to the sources of European Community law without idealizing it, in search of elements found in other integration systems such as the Andean Community.
