- Authors
Mason, JohnAlan
- Abstract
The article discusses an internationalist movement which supported the Soviet Union's nation-building policy in Moldova. How the Soviet patriots tried to influence the Moldavan government by way of politically-motivated industrial strikes and the 1990 elections, prevent the implementation of language laws, and gain control of the eastern region of Transnistria via its Moldovan loyalist institutions in the Ukraine are discussed. Work collectives, political participation by candidates outside the Communist Party, social polarization, and nationalism are also discussed.
