Will There Ever Be a New French Cinema?
- Authors
Herpe, Noël
- Abstract
The article discusses the development of New French Cinema. According to the author, in the film "Freedom's Children," Claude Marie Trémois praises the New French Cinema of the 1990s. The released of "Love Without Pity is a typical example of the eternal return of a Romantic discourse reviving the rhetorical flourishes of the 1950s in order to wave the new revolution. Thus, he concludes that the young French cinema continues to suffer from feverish adolescence being manifested in an over estimation of the self and in a fantasy of mastery that contradicts the ideal of openness to the other.
