- Abstract
The aim of this study is to develop a reliable and valid scale to determine teachers' and educators' educational philosophies using appropriate adjective pairs. The sample of the study consisted of 486 teachers working in public and private schools. Validities of content, face and construct were examined regarding the validity of the scale. Cronbach alpha and one-way analysis of variance were implemented to find out the internal consistency coefficients of the items to determine the reliability of the scale. In order to determine the construct validity of the scale, exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) studies were performed, respectively. The scale originally designed as seven factors and 35 items took its final form as seven factors and 32 items with the applied analyzes, and the created model was tested with CFA and the proposed seven-factor and 32-item structure according to the compliance index was confirmed. The factors were named as knowledge, teacher, student, educational environment, values, program content and assessmentevaluation. The Cronbach's Alpha Reliability Coefficient of the scale is .97 and factors range between .69 and .96. The findings show that the scale is valid and reliable for use to determine educators' and teachers' educational philosophies and it can be used by the other stakeholders of education when necessary.
