The article assesses the relevance of governments administered by the Australian Labor Party and its role in the implementation of urban transport policy in Australia. Topics discussed include the partisan politics of public transport, the economic importance of urban rail transport and its construction, and the policy implemented by the Labor government for the railway system in January 1989.
