- Abstract
The article discusses the construction of historical estimates of gross domestic product (GDP) of countries such as the United States, Britain, and France, among others, as a partial measure of those countries' historical economic status in quantifiable terms. The author cites this methodology of economic history as following on the research of economic historian Angus Maddison. Within this context, the author specifically addresses the effects of a change of economic leadership and how to date such changes.
