- Abstract
Rural tourism goes beyond the number of tourists and income it generates, in Cuetzalan del Progreso with an indigenous population, Totonacos and Nahuas, exhibits exuberant vegetation and exotic fauna, preserving their way of life with coffee production activities, mystical celebrations and rituals with the dance of the quetzals and the flyers that mix pre-Hispanic and Christian traditions. They expose their systems to the tourist, with expectations of improving their living conditions. Tourism is analyzed from the perception of the general population, the locals involved in tourism and from the tourist, with 96 interviews conducted during 2016 and 2018. The three groups perceive economic benefits and improvement in quality of life, (p>0.05)., perceive incipient losses in clothing, language and traditions (p>0.05). They express different perceptions regarding job creation, economic development, satisfaction with their People (p<0.05), and about the environment, values and customs (p<0.05).
