- Abstract
A response by S. V. Subramanian and colleagues to a commentary on their study on health disparities, published in the 2006 issue, is presented. The authors claim that their study demonstrated the use of individual-based socioeconomic measures (IBSM) and area-based socioeconomic measures (ABSM) to analyze birth weight inequalities. They argue against the commentators' views on their use of ABSM, and explains how they conceptualize their IBSM and ABSM models. They also emphasize the relevance of ABSM in examining birth weight health disparities.
