- Title
A Rationale for a STEM Program in the Christian School.
- Authors
Fernando, Roger
- Abstract
Since 2017, as a result of Government encouragement, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs have become common in Australian schools. Christian schools have embraced this directive and incorporated STEM programs into their secondary curriculum. This article explores a biblical perspective on STEM, highlighting its faithful use—which leads to redemptive acts of service, and its unfaithful use—leading to idolatry. Redemptive acts of service are those that lead to the biblical norm of shalom while idolatry leads inevitably to increased suffering. Recognising that all human gifts, including those that undergird STEM, are from God, the STEM curriculum needs to provide opportunities to develop these gifts in the image-bearing student.
