- Abstract
The teacher balances honoring students' ownership and investment in figuring out answers to their questions while also helping the class develop target science ideas and practices. Although the teacher plays a key role in helping students refine these ideas, students are part of identifying the need for what they are working on and thinking through ways to make progress. The motivation for each lesson emerges from the questions students have identified and where they left off previously, and teachers support students in developing science ideas over time.
