THE STATUS OF SCIENCE TEACHING MANPOWER IN NEW YORK CITY.
- Authors
Schenberg, Samuel
- Abstract
The article focuses on the status of science teaching manpower in New York City. The schools have difficulty to secure a licensed science substitute to fill existing vacancies and occasional absences of teachers. Thirty-four academic high schools are employing thirty five non-science substitutes for one or more terms. Twenty-four academic high schools require several science teachers. To address the crises in science education, several aspects need to consider such as instituting an adequate salary schedule, improving working conditions and raising the morale of teachers.
